What cookies are
Cookies are small text files that a website stores on your device. Some are needed for the site to work at all; others are only installed if you allow them. Alongside cookies, similar technologies such as local storage and tracking pixels may be used: everything written here applies to those too.
Cookies we use without asking
These are technical cookies. Italian law (art. 122 of the Privacy Code) allows them without consent, because without them the site cannot do what you asked it to do. The processing of the resulting data rests on our legitimate interest in keeping the site working and secure (art. 6(1)(f) GDPR); for every other cookie described below the basis is your consent (art. 6(1)(a)).

Cookies we only install if you agree
None of these are installed before you choose. Until then, the map is replaced by a placeholder and no tracking script is loaded.
Map
The contact section can show a Google Maps frame. Displaying it means Google Ireland Ltd. and Google LLC receive your IP address and may set cookies such as NID, CONSENT and SOCS, lasting up to two years.
Statistics
Google Analytics 4 tells us how many people visit the site and which pages they read. It sets _ga and _ga_<ID>, both lasting up to two years. IP addresses are anonymised.
Marketing
The Meta pixel measures our advertising campaigns and lets us reach relevant audiences on Facebook and Instagram. It sets _fbp (3 months) and, on Meta domains, fr (3 months). These are profiling cookies.
Transfers outside the European Union
Google and Meta are established in Ireland but belong to groups based in the United States, where some data may be transferred. Both companies are certified under the EU-US Data Privacy Framework and use the European Commission’s standard contractual clauses. The newsletter form
On this site you will find a form for subscribing to our newsletter. It sets no cookies and writes nothing to your browser’s storage, either before or after you send it, and no external script enters the page. The spam check is internal to the site as well: for it we use neither reCAPTCHA nor any other external service.

Changing your mind
Your choice about cookies is never final. The Cookie preferences link at the bottom of every page reopens it.
When you withdraw consent for a category, the cookies that consent had installed are deleted from your device; and if anything had already been loaded on the page you are reading, the page reloads, which is the only way to shut down a script that has already started. This covers the cookies set by this site. The ones Google and Meta set on their own domains — NID, CONSENT, SOCS, fr — we cannot delete for you: no website is able to touch cookies belonging to another domain.
For those, and for a clean sweep, your browser settings remain — in Chrome, Firefox, Safari and Edge the option sits under Privacy — though blocking all cookies may stop parts of the site from working.
Your rights
Under articles 15 to 22 of the GDPR you may ask us for access to your data, correction, erasure, restriction, portability, and you may object to processing. Where processing rests on consent, withdrawing it does not affect what was lawful beforehand. Write to abbazia@abbaziadisantabona.com.
If you believe your data has been handled improperly you may complain to the Italian supervisory authority, Garante per la protezione dei dati personali.
